Introduction

Motion and Emotion within Place

The Scandinavian interdisciplinary research network on Geography and Emotion invites all interested scholars to take part in an interdisciplinary discussion on Motion and Emotion within Place following the Emotional Geography conference in Aarhus in 2006 and the Emotions, Materiality and Mythologies conference in Helsingborg in 2008.

Places take place and are perceived and performed between different entities: the materiality and site-specificity of a place, concrete actions of social operators, different symbolic processes of construction (historical, technological, artistic, media-technological interaction), and imaginary and emotional projections of groups and of individuals. Mobility has long been at the center of interest in a wide range of humanistic disciplines and social sciences such as media and cultural studies, sociology, geography, phenomenology and globalization theories, as well as in tourist studies. The conference aims to highlight new ways of relating to places emotionally now that places are uprooted, set in motion and circulated globally.
